CCTV in operation signs help you show staff, visitors and contractors that surveillance is active in shops, offices, warehouses and shared premises for clearer security awareness.
CCTV in operation signs tell people that surveillance cameras are active before they enter or move through your premises. They help you support transparency, improve deterrence and guide staff, visitors and contractors in shops, offices, warehouses and site entrances.
Best Places to Display CCTV In Operation Signs
You should install CCTV in operation signs at entrances, reception points, car parks, loading doors, shop windows and shared corridors. Place them before people enter recorded areas so the camera warning is seen early, not after someone is already being filmed.
Choosing the Right Viewing Distance
Use A5 only for close-range doors or internal counters. A4 suits normal entrances and corridors at around 2–5 metres. Choose A3 for car parks, warehouse access points and open yards, with A2 used where drivers or pedestrians need to recognise the warning from roughly 8–15 metres.
What Clear CCTV Signage Helps Achieve
After installation, this sign helps people recognise that recording is active before they enter controlled areas. It can reduce casual trespass, support better staff explanations and make your CCTV system feel more transparent to visitors.
✅ Visitors see the warning before entering recorded spaces.
✅ Staff have a clear visual reference when explaining CCTV use.
✅ Premises look more controlled, managed and security-aware.

Practical Fixing Advice for CCTV Warning Signs
Placement errors that weaken the warning
- ❌ Fitting the sign after the camera has already captured arrivals
- ❌ Placing it behind doors, displays or parked vehicles
- ❌ Choosing A5 where drivers or visitors view from distance
When this sign is not the best choice
- ❌ Do not use alone where contact details must be shown
- ❌ Avoid vinyl on dusty, rough or damp surfaces
- ❌ Do not rely on one sign for multiple separated entrances
Better choices for clear site coverage
- ✅ Fit one sign at every normal entry point into recorded areas
- ✅ Use larger sizes for gates, car parks and warehouse approaches
- ✅ Mount at eye level where people naturally look before entering
CCTV In Operation Signs questions answered
Do I need CCTV signs if cameras are already visible? Yes. Visible cameras alone can still leave people unsure whether recording is active. A sign gives a clear written warning before they enter the area.
Is this sign enough for every CCTV installation? Not always. For some workplaces or public-facing areas, you may also need to show why CCTV is used and who to contact. Use a write-on or details-based CCTV sign where that information is required.
What size should I choose for an entrance? A4 is usually the safest everyday choice for doors, receptions and corridors. Use A3 or A2 where the sign must be read from further away, such as yards or car parks.
Can this be used outdoors? Yes, select the material that suits the surface and weather exposure. Rigid plastic is better for walls and external fixing, while vinyl suits clean, smooth surfaces.
Where should CCTV in operation signs be positioned? Put them before the recorded area, not hidden inside it. Good locations include gates, shopfronts, office entrances, warehouse access points and visitor routes.
